Hawai'i Green Collar Institute Spring
Break Session on Marine Conservation for Leeward O'ahu High School Students
March 18 - 22, 2013
Mahalo nui loa to Leeward District students from Campbell,
Nānākuli, and Kapolei High Schools who spent their Spring Break with us for our
latest Hawaiʻi Green Collar Institute session focusing on ocean conservation
and careers. We had such a great time with them and felt energized by their
enthusiasm for learning and for serving their communities. Mahalo to NOAA for
supporting this session through a Marine Education and Training Mini Grant.
We also wish to thank all the groups and individuals who helped as
speakers and site hosts: Pacific Rim Conservation (Lindsay Young), Camp
Mokulēʻia (David Turner and Jenta Russell), Hoakalei Cultural Foundation (Kim
Kalama), Mālama Maunalua (Kimo Franklin), NOAA Navigating Change (Matt
Limtiaco), Leeward Community College (Aulii Silva, Felicia Favero, and others),
State Dept. of Land and Natural Resources (Betsy Gagne), and Hawaiian
Astronomical Society. It was a fun, action-packed week learning to appreciate
the ocean environment and how to care for it through volunteer actions and
careers.
